Margo DuBos imagined her latest venture, The Road Trip Collection, while in the car this summer. The idea for a custom and comfortable jean jacket came to her on her way back to New Orleans from her home in Montana and within weeks she had made her first product.

Inspired by the open road and the places she visited on the way to Montana and back (San Antonio, Santa Fe, Aspen, and Jackson Hole to name a few), DuBos' jackets range from flashy to organic and show plenty of personality throughout with unique fabrics and special add-ons.

"For me, designing is in my blood. Fashion has always been something I've been crazy about and repurposing fabrics has been so fun," she told Adore

DuBos started with clothing in her own closet. She repurposed gold lace off of an Elie Tahari evening top—"It's just killer!"—and old fur pieces to put around the jacket cuffs. Another jacket reimagined a placemat from World Market and others sport fun patches placed on fabric and cross-stitched onto the denim. Mood Fabrics is her go-to, but Jo-Ann fabrics and Artéé in Metairie have provided unique options as well.

Customers can purchase a ready-made jacket or work with DuBos and her talented seamstress on a custom creation. Jackets come in all sizes and colors including black, gray, and all washes of denim. And don't forget the lining—that is customizable too!

On Saturday, December 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., DuBos will be showing her jackets at a very on-theme trunk show hosted by Carbine Motorcar. She will be joined by Ellie Schwing of Bene Handbags and Isabel Clark of Bar2Go, and champagne and light refreshments will be served. Pieces from each brand will be available to purchase and would make wonderful gifts this holiday season. Gift certificates to The Road Trip Collection will also be available.

Carbine Motorcars is located at 3113 Tchoupitoulas Street.
