Sparkle City, the sparkly sweaters and shirts sweeping the South, was started over an Instagram post.
Jaime Glas, who owns HauteWork, made a gag comment about creating sequin versions of her jumpsuit line. Margo Cory asked if Jaime could make her a white sparkly jumpsuit for her wedding. Through fittings and meetings, the two bonded over manufacturing troubles (Cory also has a fashion company) and the lack of fashionable clothes for game day.
"[We] decided to create a few Saints and LSU sweaters, and sold them all in 2 days through our personal social media accounts," they told Adore. That's when they knew there was a huge opportunity in the market and decided to go for it.
Sparkle City's launch aligned with last year's eventful season. "The Saints were advancing each week during the playoffs and that really set off the spark! When we opened up the line to wholesale, stores were reaching out like crazy!
Following the season, the women began to plan their new line and website relaunch. The designs for each school and team are cohesive, yet unique. The duo contact female fans of teams for feedback, while also polling followers on social media.
Cory and Glas extended the line to include schools like Ole Miss and Alabama, and other teams such as the Dallas Cowboys. (Glas's favorite shirt is the wrap-around tiger tee, while Cory's go-to is the Geaux Glitter jersey tee).
All Sparkle City products are available on their newly revamped website. New Olreans and LSU specifics can be found in stores such as Little Miss Muffin, PHINA, and Lucy Rose. College towns like Baton Rouge, Oxford, and Lubbock sell the stylish gear at Hemline.
Game day is clearly important to the pair and they love creating clothing that goes beyond typical. "We are making clothes for the girl that's planning her whole season ahead and always wants to look stylish for big games!"
The sparkles won't be limited to just sport and school spirit: The women also have holiday attire and will soon be launching personalized sweaters. To stay up-to-date, follow Sparkle City along on Instagram!
