While the New Orleans Museum of Art has remained closed since March, its online shop has experienced a renaissance. The retailer has transformed its minimal selection of branded merchandise and catalogs into an expanded shop including candles, dishware, jewelry, and activities for children and adults. Each purchase supports the museum's mission to inspire and unite communities and cultures through the arts. 

Jackie DeBlieux, the museum retail manager, says that the most popular shop items have been products linked to an exhibition or permanent collection, as well as works by local artists, including pottery jewelry, and books. 

"When selecting merchandise for the shop, I try to pay attention to what themes are most prevalent throughout our exhibitions and events, and what our staff are talking about or interested in," DeBlieux told Adore. "I do this as a way to make the shop merchandise complement the museum and our activities. I also try to incorporate as many local artists as I can while staying within these themes, as well as companies and brands that have a story or promote the work of artisans around the world."

In addition to expanding the store's merchandise, she is actively growing the shop's online and social media presence. Through Instagram (@nomamuseumshop), she hopes to support local New Orleans artists and provide additional ways to showcase their work.

The shop is only offering shipping at this time, but will provide a local pick-up option once the store is able to re-open. Until then, Deblieux says that the support has been crucial during the closure. "We are happy for the support from our community, and can't wait until we are able to see everyone in person again!"
