Ellie Platt, New Orleans' resident queen of headpieces, has created the perfect quarantine activity. Her company, Crowned by Ellie, is now offering Quarantine Crown Kits, available in three variations.
Inspired by geometric chalk fences that seem to have taken over Instagram, each kit comes with a headband crown with tape already applied, five washable paint colors, and a paint brush. The New Orleans native had been working on new products for the summer and the coronavirus quarantine became a good time to release her first crown craft kit. "Now more than ever we need to feel like the kings and queens of our domains, since we can’t leave and all!" Platt told Adore.
Platt officially created Crowned by Ellie on Thanksgiving of 2019 following years of creating headpieces for her mother's Mardi Gras luncheons to college parties and beyond. "My creative hobby just sort of took off! People started looking forward to seeing what I would show up wearing, which I think is incredibly fun!"
Always the creative type, Platt's passion carried on through her time at McGehee and LSU, where she majored with a BA in Graphic Design. Her unique and affordable pieces (which she sports nearly every day) are created in her home studio and can be ordered for all occasions. From weddings and debutante parties to Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest, Platt stands by her promise that she can dream up the perfect headpiece. "I think there is something amazing about putting fantastical creations in the hands (and on the heads!) of anyone wanting to add some pizzazz to a look."
This past year, she created headpieces for her float in the Krewe of Tucks (where she serves as float captain) and created more for other Krewes and their floats. No matter the crown, Platt hopes her products will help the wearer look and feel their very best every single day. "The minute you put on a crown, you’ll always be able to stand out from the crowd, and you’ll truly feel like a queen or king!"
