Save the date for the March Major Estates Auction hosted by New Orleans Auction Galleries. Starting Saturday, March 27 at 10 a.m., the two-day auction features over 1,000 pieces of furniture, jewelry, home accessories, and art. Many of the items are from the Estate of Joyce "Penny" and B. Garland Cupp (longtime clients of NOAG).
"The Cupp’s collection includes an outstanding selection of fine Regency and Georgian furniture; a mix of 19th- and 20th-century American, English and European paintings; English and American silver; and Asian arts. Penny and Garland were auction enthusiasts but also acquired items from Royal Street in New Orleans and on trips abroad."
Susan D. Sarofim, the CEO of NOAG, wrote in her letter that several of the items in the upcoming auction may feel very Bridgerton-esque. While the hit Netflix show portrays an alternate version of life during England's Regency era (1795-1837), the furnishings and art are very true to the time. She writes, "While Bridgerton may be an aspirational fantasy, the gorgeous settings and furniture, saturated in lush colors, can be an aspirational reality."
English antiques, exquisite jewelry, and beautiful period paintings are all available in this weekend's auction, which is taking place online, absentee, and over the telephone. Ahead, a few of our favorite lots.
