There's a new spot in Uptown New Orleans to sip, eat, and stay awhile, even overnight if you'd wish. The Chloe, a boutique hotel, restaurant, and bar, officially opened in late October after much anticipation. The 14-room sanctuary is the first from restaurateur and 2019 Adore A-Lister Robert LeBlanc of LeBLANC + SMITH.
Originally designed by Thomas Sully, the 19th century property boasts several original design details including intricate tile flooring, dark woodwork, complex plaster moldings, and the grand staircase. Interior designer Sara Ruffin Costello enhanced the Victorian-era mansion with a mix of old and 21st century touches throughout.
"This was a bed and breakfast before we took over and it was run by a fantastic couple," LeBlanc told Adore. "The building was in really good shape and most of the bones were intact. We cleaned it up with paint colors and more modern fixtures. Our idea was to imagine what the home would look like if had been in the same family for five generations."
The lobby, which is open for anyone to enjoy and use as a jumping off point while spending time Uptown, contains plenty of seating as well as easy access to the bar and hidden nooks for working or cozying up with a book. Dim lighting and dark hues immediately brings a sense of mysticism to all who enter. The guestrooms are found upstairs, each with its own design and individual details. From four-poster beds to modern soaking tubs, each room feels like an elegant retreat with plenty of local touches. Vinyls from Peaches Records, robes from Lekha, and amenities by Oxalis Apothecary await each guest.
Downstairs, the restaurant features modern takes on New Orleans classics from executive chef Todd Pulsinelli. Expect everything from baked oysters and Shrimp Étouffée Dumplings to LeBlanc's favorite, the Grilled Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad. Whether you dine in the main dining room, which houses neo-Victorian light fixtures and ochre leather banquettes, or outdoors, the experience is sure to be unforgettable. The bar room, which is completely original to the house except the mahogany bar, is overseen by Jason Sorbet and offers a selection of cocktails and spirits.
No matter what the temperature, guests are sure to adore the inviting pool and island-inspired outdoor bar. The back, a former parking lot, also features an herb garden, plenty of palmettos, and additional seating.
The Chloe is located at 4125 St. Charles Avenue.
