Souk Indigo, a new Louisiana-based fashion brand, combines the colors and silhouettes of global travel with ethical and sustainable practices. The collection is the brainchild of Amber Broussard of Alexandria.
Before launching her line, Broussard ran her family's floral design business. Inspired by her travels across India, Broussard's line not only brings unique textiles stateside, but advances artisans from around the world. Natural fabrics like cotton silks, lyocel, denim, and soft woven cottons are used in the first small curated collection that contains eight styles in many colorways. "I want the line to incorporate as many natural fabrics as possible as part of our commitment to sustainability," Broussard said.
Items range from $90 for a t-shirt to $860 for a jacket featuring 120 hours worth of hand-stitched embroidery. The first collection of the "slow fashion" brand also features the names of inspiring and influential women from Broussard's life.
To celebrate the collection, Souk Indigo is holding court at White's Mercantile on Tuesday, October 29th and Wednesday, October 30th. Shoppers can browse the collection and meet Broussard at the event, all while enjoying small bites and libations.
