New Orleans Fashion Week Fall 2015

New Orleans Fashion Week is in full swing! The ninth annual event gathers Southern designers, models, glam squads, and more to New Orleans to congregate for a week of events, shopping experiences, and of course, runway shows. NOFW also serves as a catalyst for talented Southern designers. The Top Design Competition allows designers to showcase their collections and a chance to win a career launching prize package.

Jacob Burkett, the 2018 winner, won over the panel of judges with his cutting edge designs. This year's competition highlights eight new designers hailing from across the region. The gifted group will present on Thursday, September 26 at the Board of Trade (316 Magazine Street) and tickets are available for purchase here. While all of the competitors are sure to impress, we've highlighted two to keep an eye on. May the best designer win!

Brianna Thomas

Brianna Thomas is a senior at Dillard University and has a passion of art, fashion, and of course, design. Her small business Bri's Creative Design translates customer's ideas into custom art work on sandals, jean jackets, and even graduation caps. According to New Orleans Fashion Week, she was a part of the 2018 Canal Place Style Board. She submitted a painted dress to pay tribute to African influence on New Orleans culture with pain, glitter, and ribbon.

Sylvester West

This 19-year-old was called on by Drake to work behind the scenes as a seamstress. Sylvester West has been sewing since age eight, while mastering the art throughout his teens. He participated in last year's Essence Festival and is currently applying to fashion and design universities. He also does custom orders and alterations, runs a t-shirt company, and teaches sewing classes to young students.
