Earlier this week, New Orleans-based artist Ashley Longshore and Maybelline New York announced their limited-edition collaboration on a line of liquid lipsticks.

Longshore and Maybelline selected six distinct shades to add to the brand’s collection of long lasting Superstay Matte Ink lip colors. (The brand says the shades will stay on lips for up to 16 hours.) Longshore then designed the packaging for the makeup, which reflect her penchant for bright colors and pop culture references, with images of high heels, butterflies, and lips.

"The actual color palette combined with the celebratory packaging is JOYFUL and FUN! And that is my vibe," Longshore told Adore in an email.

The collaboration has been in the works for over a year. According to Longshore, diligent time was spent picking shades that would work with a variety of skin tones and designing the bold and expressive packaging.

A native of Montgomery, Ala., Longshore has cemented her status as a pop art icon. In 2018, she was named the “artist-in-residence” at Bergdorf Goodman in New York. She was called “Fashion’s Latest Art Darling” by the New York Times and has appeared on Late Night with Seth Myers. Locals and visitors alike can visit her studio gallery anytime on Magazine Street.

The lipsticks are available for pre-order on Amazon and will be available in stores in September.
