GiveNOLA Day returns next week, and Sylvain is celebrating Turning Tables, a local organization started in 2019 that the restaurant has worked with to expand its efforts for equity, diversity, and inclusion, with a fundraiser evening. The event takes place Tuesday, May 4 and will support the education of future Turning Tables graduates.
"Turning Tables is a workforce development program that advocates for equity in the hospitality industry by providing mentorship, educational tools, and platforms to sustain the Black and Brown communities of New Orleans. Through their 12-week program, students are provided with not only holistic training, but a system of community support, access to career pathways and a connection to a larger professional network."
Sylvain has hosted one of the organization's students, Jeri Guildford, as a trainee over the past months. During the GiveNOLA Day event, Guildford will be creating cocktails to be enjoyed with snacks by Ozzie Mendoza of Fowlmouth, a pop-up kitchen inspired by Puerto Rican chinchorros (beachside food and drink stands). There are two seatings at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and tickets are $40 a person. Half roasted chickens (serves two) are also available for pre-order.
Half of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to Turning Tables. The event is supported by Beam Suntory.
Sylvain is located at 625 Chartres Street.
