With a second cold front on the horizon, we're ready to spend the weekend out and about. For those who are in the festival mood, NOLA Mac N' Cheese Fest is the ideal way to spend a beautiful Saturday.

The cheesy festival is in its third year and offers New Orleanians and visitors alike the opportunity to enjoy mac n' cheese and its inspired dishes in Louis Armstrong Park. The event was founded by Jules Egren, a lifelong lover of mac n' cheese, with her partner Kent Broussard. A discussion about festivals in New Orleans led to the realization that there wasn't a festival dedicated to the dish. Within a month, NOLA Mac N' Cheese Fest became a reality.

The event, which is presented by WAITR, has grown since its inception and features dishes from over 13 local restaurants, lemonade by the Squeezy Street Lemonade, snowballs from Cajun Sneaux Snowballs, and plenty of libations. Live music and an artist market also add to this year's fun.

"The people of Louisiana love mac n' cheese," Egren told Adore. "We love seeing people dressed in their best mac n' cheese accessories, from t-shirts and earrings to crazy fun head pieces and more!"

The annual contest for "Best Mac n' Cheese in New Orleans" is back and will be judged by local foodies including Evie Bories of @evie_eats. "We like to select judges that represent New Orleans – the food, the entertainment and the fun! And of course, they’ve got to have great taste buds!"

The festival is also adding another contest to its lineup. "NOLA's Biggest Mac n' Cheese Fan" will be awarded to the winner of the Mac n' Cheese Eating Contest. Whoever is first to finish will win gift cards from Big Cheezy and Superior Seafood, plus a swag bag.

NOLA Mac N' Cheese Fest is intended for all ages and offers free admission. A play area for children, presented by the Special Olympics of Louisiana, will also be offered this year. A portion of the 2019 profits will benefit the organization.

This year's festival is dedicated to Kent Broussard, who passed away earlier this year. "This festival was something that made him so happy; I want to continue spreading joy to our attendees, just as he always would."

NOLA Mac N' Cheese Fest will be held October 12th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Louis Armstrong Park.
