While Tales of the Cocktail is full of exclusive, invite-only events, there are a number of happenings that any resident can access. The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans is hosting a pop-up that offers more than just a tasty libation.

Arnd Heissen is in town from The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin with his signature talent of creating cocktails based on scents. His home bar called Fragrances replaces the typical menu with a Hall of Fame instead: a collection of customized cocktails based on the scents of a set number of individuals.

In the New Orleans pop-up, Heissen concocted drinks based on the favorite scents from several bartenders of Marriott International. For instance, one bartender's perfume of choice comes from Byredo and the matching cocktail contains Roku Gin, lemon, and Giffard Maraschino liqueur among other ingredients.

Upon arrival, guests will be met with a cocktail by the Merry Antoinettes. From there, the sniffing takes place: Heissen explained each bartender's personality and characteristics while offering a smell of their favorite perfume. Once a scent is selected, guests are led to their bartender for the beverage accompanied by a complementary (and complimentary) bite. Upon exit, guests can visit the frosé garden and mingle in the courtyard.

The hotel's lobby floor lounge was transformed into a dark and dramatic library, replete with blooms hanging from the ceiling and bold pieces of art including mannequins with flower arrangements for heads.

The Fragrances Pop-Up Bar is open Friday July 19 from 1-4 p.m. Register here.
