Carnival season has officially started! To celebrate, The Historic New Orleans Collection's popular Carnival-themed tour returns through Friday, February 21. During "Rites, Rituals, and Revelry: The History of Mardi Gras in New Orleans," visitors will learn more about the city's traditions beginning with celebrations during the French and Spanish colonial periods.
The guided hour-long tour is available daily, except Mondays, and will cover topics on the development of parading krewes to the Mardi Gras Indians to the modern era's popular superkrewes. Items from the museum's holdings will also be on display.
The tours begin promptly at 11 a.m. at the 533 Royal Street location. Admission is complimentary for museum members or $5; tickets can be purchased here.
