Picnicking, a long-standing pastime, is getting a makeover. NOLA PopUp Picnic, a local picnic planning company, aims to create a luxurious and unique experience with food, beverage, decorations, and more all sourced from local businesses without the hassle of setting and cleaning up.

Ana Paola Suarez was inspired by the popup picnics she saw take place across the globe and wanted to bring the concept to New Orleans. A second grade teacher by day, Suarez dedicates her weekends and holidays to curating picnics for engagements, girls' days, birthdays, and of course, the romantic picnic date. "This experience has been so rewarding because it has given me the ability to be creative and bring joy to others. My favorite part is seeing the look of happiness and awe on peoples' faces."

NOLA PopUp Picnic offers different levels of picnics, and each experience is completely customizable. Each comes with a table set up (the tables are made by them) and a rug from Banana Manor Rugs to sit on. Flowers by Blucid Floral, wine from Faubourg Wines, and charcuterie by Charcutie of Nola are just some of the many options for bites and drinks. Bluetooth speakers, string lights, materials for painting, and games like giant Jenga and cornhole are also available. Capture all of the memories with a selfie stand or a professional photographer.

The planning gene runs in her family—Suarez grew up watching her mother plan spectacular birthday parties for her as a child growing up in Guadalajara, Mexico. Employing other small businesses was important, especially after seeing so many close during the pandemic. "As a Mexican woman in business, I believe it is important that we all support one another. That is why I make it a point to support other women owned businesses as well as BIPOC and LGBTQA+ businesses."

As we know, New Orleans weather can be unpredictable, so Suarez asks clients to have a back-up location in case of rain. "People are always amazed at how any space can be completely transformed and made into something very special."
