Independent Bookstore Day (IBD) is Saturday, April 24, and your favorite New Orleans bookstores are ready to celebrate.
Five shops—Baldwin & Co., Blue Cypress Books, Garden District Book Shop, Octavia Books, and Tubby and Coo's Mid-City Book Shop—have partnered for a scavenger hunt. Pick up a Bookstore Passport from any of the stores and visit each bookstore and collect a sticker or stamp for the passport for that store. If you visit at least three stores, you will receive a goodie bag put together by all of the stores. If you visit all five, you will be entered into the grand prize raffle. The winner will receive a $25 gift certificate from each store, totaling in $125.
Below, a few more opportunities to celebrate IBD!
Aside for the scavenger hunt, Blue Cypress Books will host a socially-distant sidewalk signing with Augustin Correro, the author of Tennessee Williams 101. The signing will take place Saturday, April 24 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
Blue Cypress Books is located at 8126 Oak Street.
Garden District Book Shop will have plenty of IBD merchandise and amazing gifts with purchase. Spend $50 and receive a free IBD tote, enjoy a free snowball with any purchase from Plum Street Snowballs (noon to 2 p.m. — limited quantities), and spend $15 and receive a free audiobook from Libro.fm.
Garden District Book Shop is located at 2727 Prytania Street.
Octavia Books will be celebrating with in-store events including a special open-air sidewalk book signing with Barri Bronstron for the launch of her book Walking New Orleans: 33 Historic Neighborhoods, Waterfront Districts, and Recreational Wonderlands (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.). There will be free gifts and prizes while visiting the store, and IBD merchandise is also available.
