In the mood to start a new period piece? A new eight-part series should satisfy.

MASTERPIECE series "Sanditon" airs on WYES-TV/Channel 12 on Sunday, January 12. The show is based on an unfinished work of Jane Austen, which was completed and brought to the small screen by notable screenwriter Andrew Davies (War and Peace, Pride and Prejudice). The period drama, which was written in 1817, stars Rose Williams and Theo James in the lead roles.

The station is hosting a special screening of the premiere episode on Wednesday, January 8 in New Orleans. For $20, guests will enjoy champagne with lite bites prior to the main event. Attendees will also have the opportunity to shop handmade jewelry and other trinkets from Grandmother's Buttons, which is serving as the event sponsor. The evening will take places at the WYES Paulette and Frank Stewart Innovation Center for Educational Media (916 Navarre Avenue). Tickets are available here.
