While Halloween is still a few weeks away, New Orleans is already celebrating with events throughout the city. In honor of the holiday, The Historic New Orleans Collection is resurrecting its special Halloween-themed tour of their galleries this month.
"Danse Macabre: The Nightmare of History," which runs Tuesday through Sunday at 11 a.m., will lead visitors through "darker aspects of New Orleans lore." For just $5 (free for THNOC members), guests will learn about a variety of spooky topics. Everything from cemetery relocation to yellow fever to Voodoo will be covered.
The tour will also include information on New Orleans figures from the past, like the mystical Doctor John Montanet and Père Dagobert de Longuory. While Danse Macabre is not intended for children under 13, history buffs and horror fans alike will find the tour to be an interesting, albeit scary start to the day.
Tours take place at Tuesday-Sunday at 11 a.m. until October 31st at 533 Royal Street. Tickets available here.
